Liam Bates is an award winning composer, arranger and conductor of contemporary concert music, of music for ballet and contemporary dance, of music for film and television and of musical theatre. His orchestral and chamber works include, Vivo, Elegy, Heroes of the Helen Blake and Earthrise - a newly commissioned viola concerto. Choral compositions include Child of Creation, Angel and Canticles. A four-year composer in residence post, enabled Liam to collaborated with choreographer Norman Morris and dancer, David Drew, developing new works for the Royal Ballet Company and Royal Ballet School. His string trio music DOLMEN was commissioned by American choreographer Vivian Brody Hayes. As an arranger, orchestrator and conductor, Liam has performed and recorded with many artistes including Luciano Pavarotti, Pete Townsend, Bon Jovi, Meat Loaf, Bryan Adams, Dave Stewart, Michael Kamen and Elliot Goldenthal. A twenty year partnership with Irish author Eoin Colfer has led to the composition of four musicals, most notably Noël the Christmas musical. They are currently working on their musical theatre adaptation or Artemis Fowl. Composing for the screen, some of Liam’s film scores include Let The Wrong One In, Last Passenger and Earthbound. Other films include music for Show Girls (directed by Paul Verhovan), Circle of Friends, Don Juan De Marco (Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando), and the romantic comedy Leap Year (Amy Adams). Liam studied composition with Giles Swayne, Susan Bradshaw, John McCabe and Robert Walker. He studied conducting with Norman Del Mar and Albert Rosen.
